‘Snow White’ trailer: Gal Gadot takes on Evil Queen’s role in upcoming live-action

  • She is starring in Disney’s upcoming Snow White movie.
  • The trailer showcased her performance as the conniving stepmother.

Gal Gadot is stepping into the role of the Evil Queen in Marc Webb’s live-action adaptation of Disney’s Snow White, marking a dramatic shift from her iconic portrayal of Wonder Woman.

The recently released trailer showcases Gadot’s performance as the conniving stepmother, with Snow White (Rachel Zegler) narrating the story. After her father’s death, Snow White’s stepmother takes over the kingdom, relegating her to the sidelines.

The situation worsens when the Evil Queen’s Magic Mirror declares that Snow White, not her stepdaughter, is “the fairest of them all.”

In an attempt to escape her evil stepmother, Snow White flees to the forest, where she meets the Seven Dwarfs and joins forces with them to bring positive change. The trailer concludes with the Evil Queen, disguised as an old woman, offering Snow White a poisoned apple.

While many fans are praising Gadot’s casting, some remain skeptical, especially in comparison to previous portrayals of the Evil Queen. One user defended the casting, saying, “I mean she’s more accurate to the animation Evil Queen than they were. I agree they are great in their respective roles but we haven’t seen the full scope of Gal’s version yet. I know people don’t like her (which I totally understand) but it will be interesting to see her version.”

The film has also sparked controversy over the casting of Rachel Zegler as Snow White, a Latina actor in the traditionally white role, as well as for not casting dwarf actors as the Seven Dwarfs.

‘Snow White’ Actress Rachel Zegler Extends Support to Palestine Amid Work Loss

Rachel Zegler
  • Rachel Zegler has faced scrutiny for her support of Palestine.
  • Zegler has remained resolute in her stance
  • She said that she can’t watch children die.

Disney’s upcoming Snow White remake star Rachel Zegler has come under fire for her outspoken support of Palestine, especially in light of co-star Gal Gadot’s Israeli connections. Zegler has maintained her position and emphasized her humanitarian concerns in the face of criticism.

“I can’t watch children die,” Zegler told Variety. “I don’t think that should be a hot take.” Her comments come ahead of the one-year completion of Israel’s military offensive in Gaza. Nearly 95,497 people have been injured and over 41,000 Palestinians, including 16,456 children, have died since October 7, 2023.

Zegler first became involved in the controversy in August when she tweeted her appreciation to followers of Snow White along with a request to “free Palestine.” She acknowledged her views may not align with co-star Gal Gadot, who served in the Israeli Defense Forces, but insisted her stance is based on humanitarian principles, not politics or religion.

“I’m only responsible for what I feel, and how I act upon it,” she explained, adding that celebrities have a platform to raise awareness. “If it can fall upon us to be in power in a way that is helpful, then I’m happy to do it.”

Original Snow White Director’s Son Criticizes Live-Action Remake

Snow White

The live-action remake of Snow White has recently faced strong criticism from David Hand, the son of one of the co-directors of the original 1937 animated film. In an interview, Hand expressed his disapproval of the remake, describing it as “woke.”

Hand referred to the remake as a “whole different concept” and stated, “It’s a disgrace.” He criticized the film for attempting to introduce new elements to something that was already a significant success in the past.

“Their thoughts are just so radical now. They change the stories; they change the thought process of the characters… They’re making up new woke things, and I’m just not into any of that,” Hand elaborated.

He further expressed his dissatisfaction, saying, “I find it quite frankly a bit insulting [what] they may have done with some of these classic films.” Hand concluded by suggesting that his father and Walt Disney would not approve of these changes.

On the other hand, Rachel Zegler, who stars in the remake, discussed the differences between the new movie and the original story in a previous interview. Zegler noted that her character’s portrayal in the original cartoon wouldn’t resonate with today’s audience and mentioned, “We did a really deep dive into fixing and making a modern woman out of Snow White.”

Zegler also highlighted changes made to the character’s age and independence, stating, “I think she’s 13 in the original cartoon, so we started there and said, ‘No, she’s 18 in this one.’ She’s a bit more independent.”
