Shibli Faraz says, “NRO compromised Pakistan’s moral values”

Shibli Faraz media talk

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz has on Tuesday said that the incumbent government has nothing to do with the Broadsheet scandal.

Addressing a press conference after attending the federal cabinet meeting, Shibli said that “the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) compromised Pakistan’s moral values” because politicians misused it.

Taking a jibe at previous governments, the minister said that in the past, many people were “spared despite their corrupt practices,” while many others were “even given ministries [to hide their corruption]” he said.

He said that the NRO has always “pushed the country backwards,” because whenever the rulers of this country were charged with corruption, they saved themselves by using the NRO.”

“Those who were involved in corruption struck deals and those in power at the time facilitated them,” Faraz said. “The NRO compromised  Pakistan’s moral values.”

On the other hand, referring the Broadsheet scam Shibli added that the incident has “proved that corrupt people were spared and some of them even became prime ministers and presidents.”

He added that the PTI-led government has formed a commission to probe the Broadsheet scandal which would soon “expose those involved in corruption because it is the duty of the government.”

“The results of the Broadsheet LLC probe will be released within 45 days,” the minister claimed.

PDM’s agenda is to destabilize an elected government: Shibli Faraz

Shibli Faraz

Minister for Information and Broadcasting has on Friday Shibli Faraz says the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) is pursuing a non-democratic agenda of destabilizing an elected government.

Addressing a news conference along with Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan in Islamabad, he said the opposition parties want to get power through non-democratic means.

The Minister said the opposition leaders did not go to any constitutional forum to register their complaint of any alleged rigging in the last elections, but rather resorted to activities aimed at destabilizing the country.

He said the contradictory statements being made by the PDM leaders suggest that their campaign is going to last.

Shibli Faraz said the dissenting voices within the JUI-F, including that of Maulana Akhtar Sherani and Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, prove that the party head has been pursuing his vested interests.

Speaking on the occasion, Ali Amin Gandapur said the JUI-F chief has started using threatening language against the institutions when asked to give answer of his properties. He said Maulana Fazlur Rehman will have to answer for his assets.

Ali Amin Gandapur said Maulana Sherani has leveled serious allegations against the JUI-F chief and exposed him. He said instead of answering the valid questions by Maulana Sherani, Maulana Fazlur Rehman expelled him from the party which is a non-democratic conduct.

Govt. will never offer any kind of NRO to opposition: Shibli Faraz

Shibli Faraz

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz has on Monday said that the opposition had proposed 34 out of 38 amendments in the National Accountability Ordinance to hide corruption of its leadership committed in the past.

While addressing a news conference in Islamabad, Shibli Faraz said the government will never offer any kind of NRO to the opposition.

He said the opposition proposed that NAB should not have powers to take up cases reported before 1999 and should only take notice of corruption cases reported in the last five years.

The Minister said another proposal is to change the definition of Benamidars, giving free hands to make corruption in the name of wife and children.

It was proposed to allow convicts to contest elections till final disposal of their cases and disqualification should be up to only five years, he added.

He said opposition desired to make redundant the international mutual legal assistance law and dealing it under law of evidence of Pakistan.

The minister said these amendments if incorporated will grant corrupt leaders of opposition an NRO plus, making the NAB practically dysfunctional.

The opposition attempted to create a divide among institutions responsible for country’s security, added Shibli Faraz.

He said things are improving in all sectors, which is evident from the fact that country’s exports are now increasing with every day.
