Ronnie O’Sullivan is expected to return to competitive action at the beginning of July, with the Championship League tournament in Leicester marking the start of the new snooker season later this month.

Former Masters champion Yan Bingtao and Gibraltar Open champion Robert Milkins compete on the first day of the season’s first ranking tournament, which begins on Tuesday, June 28 and concludes on Friday, July 29 at Morningside Arena.

Yan is in Group 13 with David Grace, Craig Steadman, and Aaron Hill, while Milkins is in Group 24 with Andy Hicks, Allan Taylor, and Sanderson Lam.

O’Sullivan is scheduled to begin his 2022/23 campaign on Monday, July 4, at 11:00 BST in Group 1 in a division that also includes Alexander Ursenbacher, Alfie Burden, and Farakh Ajaib. O’Sullivan won his seventh world championship last month, tying the record for most titles won by a single player.

In recent weeks, the No. 1 player in the world has participated in a number of exhibition matches, including bouts against longtime rivals Jimmy White and Stephen Hendry at Alexandra Palace in London last weekend.

Mark Selby, a four-time world champion, has been placed in Group 3 with Ben Woollaston, Zhang Jiankang, and James Cahill and is scheduled to begin his season on Thursday, 7 July.

On Tuesday, 19 July, Judd Trump, a Crucible finalist, will face Jamie Clarke, Sean O’Sullivan, and Yishan Peng in Group 2.

David Gilbert begins his championship defense in Group 16 with Joe O’Connor and Zak Surety on Wednesday, 20 July.
