Usain Bolt, the famous sprinter and winner of eight Olympic gold medals, is well-known for his record-breaking speed on the track. However, his passion for sports goes beyond athletics.

Bolt, who grew up in Jamaica, spent many hours watching cricket with his father, developing a deep love for the sport and its iconic players.

In a recent interview with the Press Trust of India (PTI), Bolt shared his vivid memories of watching Wasim Akram, the charismatic bowler from Pakistan, whose powerful in-swinging yorkers had a profound impact on him. “Over the years, one of my favourites growing up was Wasim Akram because of the in-swinging yorker that he had, ” Bolt said.

Bolt’s admiration for cricket is not just limited to international stars. He warmly remembers the commanding presence of Caribbean cricket legends such as Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose.

“Of course, Courtney Walsh and Curtly Ambrose, all these guys that I admired over the years, they were so dominant in their space,” he further added.

Bolt has always been a loyal supporter of the West Indies, a team he continues to passionately support.

“Like my father, I always support the West Indies,” he said.

However, Bolt’s admiration for cricket legends is not confined to the Caribbean. He is also a devoted fan of Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

“Yes, I have also been a Sachin Tendulkar fan. He and Brian Lara were part of my life growing up. It was a great rivalry,” he concluded.

It’s worth mentioning that Bolt, along with other cricket stars and New York sports icons, recently attended an exclusive preview of the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, in anticipation of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Wednesday.
