Manchester United, the team suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of West Ham, marking their 13th loss in all competitions before Christmas — a dubious record not seen since the 1930-31 season when they finished bottom of the table.

The beleaguered manager, Erik ten Hag, is under increasing pressure as his team’s struggles continue. The loss at the London Stadium was their eighth in the Premier League this season, with only one victory secured in the last seven games across all competitions. The team’s recent form includes three losses in the last four matches, during which they failed to score — a first for the club since 1992.

Ten Hag, facing a challenging second season, has witnessed his team’s elimination from both the Champions League group stage and the League Cup. The defeat against West Ham, a team that had suffered a 5-1 loss to Liverpool’s reserve squad just days earlier, underscores the depths to which Manchester United has plunged.

As British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe is poised to assume control of 25% of the club, Ten Hag’s precarious position becomes a growing concern. Ratcliffe, part of an agreement with the current American owners, is expected to take over football operations, finding the club in one of its bleakest periods in history.

Despite the grim situation, Ten Hag remains optimistic, believing that United can “rewrite the narrative” once key players recover from injuries. However, the team’s dismal performance and the string of defeats have set an unwanted record, leaving fans and stakeholders anxiously awaiting the potential changes that Ratcliffe’s arrival might bring to Old Trafford.
