Shadab received great marks from New Zealand’s opening batter, who is presently playing for Islamabad United in the ongoing PSL season 8.

When asked about Shadab’s batting in a post-game press conference on Tuesday, Munro responded that he is a proper batter.

“Shadab has always been a bowler that can bat a lot. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves when playing for Pakistan. As I have been playing international cricket, I can say Pakistan picks up too many openers in their team,” Munro said.

“It’s hard being an opener and batting at four or five when you haven’t done it before. You have to pick guys that are in the right. You know the guys contributing to winnings performances in certain situations, so someone like Shadab who bats at four for us – four or five is his spot, he’s a proper batsman,” the explosive batter added.

Munro also commended the captaincy qualities of Shadab who played a crucial role in United’s record-successful run-chase against Multan Sultans on Tuesday in Rawalpindi.

“As a captain, he is usually calm and collected. Tonight we needed a little bit of bamboo, as they say, just in the field because we were a little bit lazy. But again, you need that every now and again. It shows that he really cares about the team and the group, and he wants us to have those high standards that he sets for us,” he highlighted.

In the PSL last night, Shadab helped United set a record-breaking run chase with 44 runs off just 25 balls. He and Munro, who were tasked with chasing 206 runs, scored a game-changing 59 off 30 balls.
