Jon Jones will contend for the heavyweight title in March as part of his new UFC contract, making him the team’s second-highest-paid member.

Conor McGregor is by far the most paid MMA fighter, earning tens of millions of dollars for his fights, which may all produce well over a million pay-per-view sales even in the age of illegal streaming.

Before Jones returned to the ring after a three-year layoff, former middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was the second highest paid boxer.

Three years after his last victorious light-heavyweight title defense against Dominick Reyes, the UFC and the illustrious fighter have come to an agreement that would make him the highest paid active fighter in the organization.

Jones had been planning to go to heavyweight for years, but he believed his worth was greater than what the UFC was ready to pay. The UFC has finally recognized this with the signing of his most recent deal.

“When it comes to big conflicts, there are always a lot of twists and turns. We’ve had our fair share of twists and turns over the last 24 months or so that I’ve been working with Jon “Jones’ manager, Richard Schaefer, stated on The MMA Hour after Jones and Ciryl Gane agreed to terms for a heavyweight title fight.

“I’m overjoyed for Jon. I’m thrilled for MMA fans to see Jon finally compete for the UFC heavyweight title. It’s been a long time coming. You never really knew who it would be. We already knew it was for the title. That’s exactly what Jon desired. I’m overjoyed that Jon will be competing for the crown.”
