The Australian prop Scott Sio has joined the English Premiership club Exeter from the Super Rugby team the Brumbies, the English Premiership club said Wednesday.

The southwest team said that the Wallabies front-rower, who is 30 years old and has been capped 71 times, had joined on a “long-term deal,” but they didn’t say how long it was.

Sio played for the Brumbies for 11 seasons and was on the team that lost to New Zealand at Twickenham in the 2015 World Cup final.

“Having been at the Brumbies for so long, it is going to be a different challenge, but it is one that I feel I need,” Sio said in an Exeter statement.

“I have played over in England and Europe before at Test level, but having that weekly challenge is going to be something new.

“It is going to be physical and a lot is put on you as a forward, but that is one of the things that attracted me to coming over. I wanted to test myself in a new team and a new environment.”

Sio is the sixth player to sign with Exeter ahead of the new season. He joins Jack Dunne and Rory O’Loughlin from Leinster, as well as Aidon Davis, Ruben Van Heerden, and Solomone Kata, who are all heading to Sandy Park.

On September 10, champions Leicester come to Exeter to start the new season of the Premier League.
