The 27th constitutional amendment is expected to be presented in the Senate today, with some clauses potentially undergoing revisions.

Following approval by the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Law and Justice, the amendment is set to be tabled in the Senate.

Sources indicate that judges whose transfers have been announced but are reluctant to leave will not be immediately retired. Cases of judges raising objections to transfers will be referred to the Supreme Judicial Council.

Additionally, government allies have discussed whether the presidential immunity will remain or be revoked for a retired president returning to political life. However, matters regarding the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner have not been finalized.

The proposed draft also includes adding the term “of Pakistan” before references to the Supreme Court and Federal Constitutional Court, while efforts are ongoing to incorporate amendments related to local government institutions proposed by MQM.
