Dengue spread accelerates in Karachi, 2 more lives lost

Karachi: Dengue fever is spreading at an alarming rate in Karachi, claiming lives and overwhelming hospitals. In the past 24 hours alone, two more people have lost their lives, raising concerns about a possible outbreak in the city

In the last 24 hours, a 44-year-old woman from Karachi and a 13-year-old boy from Hyderabad lost their lives due to dengue.

A total of 829 new dengue cases have been reported across Sindh in the past 24 hours. Out of these, 419 cases were reported in Karachi, while 468 cases were reported in Hyderabad.

So far this year, 14,468 dengue cases have been recorded across the province of Sindh. In Sindh’s government hospitals, there are currently 245 patients under treatment, while 173 patients are being treated in private hospitals.

In Karachi, 256 beds have been designated for dengue patients in government hospitals, and 165 beds are available in private hospitals.

Additionally, 34 laboratories in Karachi are conducting dengue testing, including 12 government and 22 private labs. In Hyderabad, 18 laboratories are performing dengue tests, comprising 7 government and 11 private laboratories.

The Sindh Health Department continues to monitor and manage the ongoing dengue situation.
