Babar Azam equals Saeed Anwar’s record with stunning century

Pakistan’s pride, Babar Azam, once again proved why he is regarded among the modern greats as he smashed a remarkable century against Sri Lanka a knock that not only showcased his class but also etched his name alongside cricketing legends.

Babar Azam said he felt an immense sense of joy and honor seeing his name placed with the icons of the game. “I was waiting for this moment. I trusted myself, kept working hard, and finally achieved the century I was aiming for,” he said with pride.

He added that the greatest satisfaction came from helping Pakistan secure an important victory.

Salman Ali Agha also praised the team’s effort, saying that Pakistan built three solid partnerships during the chase. He said the team was confident after restricting Sri Lanka to under 290 runs.

In Rawalpindi, Pakistan chased down Sri Lanka’s 289-run target in just 48.2 overs with only two wickets down, taking a commanding 2–0 lead in the series. Babar Azam was deservedly awarded Player of the Match.

This century marked Babar Azam’s first international hundred in 26 months. With 20 centuries, he has now equaled Saeed Anwar’s tally and has become the fastest Pakistani to reach 20 international hundreds.

Babar remained unbeaten on a majestic 102 off 119 balls, hitting 8 boundaries. Mohammad Rizwan supported him with an unbeaten 51, while Fakhar Zaman scored 78 and Saim Ayub contributed 33.

For Sri Lanka, only Dushmantha Chameera managed to take wickets, picking up two.
