It seems Lionel Messi can’t stop breaking records. The Argentine maestro set the mark for all time international assists as Argentina trounced Puerto Rico, 6-0 at Chase Stadium.

The friendly had originally been planned in Chicago but was moved to Miami due to sluggish ticket sales.

It became a festival of Messi’s genius as Argentina’s talisman ran the show once again. The Argentina captain put on a playmaking masterclass with two assists to overtake Neymar as the national team’s top assist provider (60).

Nine minutes later, Messi was at it again, exerting his influence and putting away Gonzalo Montiel with a defense-splitting pass to stretch Argentina’s lead.

Argentina controlled the action all night. Mac Allister scored again to make it 3-0 at half-time upon 36 minutes before Puerto Rico’s Steven Echevarria turned the ball into his own net on 64 min.

Lautaro Martinez scored twice in the second half, one of them coming with four minutes left and setup by Lionel Messi, to close Argentina’s comfortable victory.

Founder Messi: The record-setting assist showed just how prolific the Argentine has been throughout his career as a creator, notching up 397 assists in 1,129 appearances. The team’s balanced attack which included a pair of scores by Mac Allister highlighted Argentina’s quality.
