Karachi under heat stress as sea winds fade

KARACHI: The city remained under the grip of intense heat and humidity today, as the temporary suspension of sea breeze led to stifling conditions across Karachi. Meteorologists have predicted light showers or drizzle by late afternoon, which may offer some relief.

Weather analysts confirmed that low atmospheric pressure caused the sea breeze to stall leading to heavy, humid air lingering over the city. Wind speeds were recorded at just 11 km/h, far lower than the normal coastal flow needed to ease the temperature.

While the actual temperature in Karachi was recorded at 28°C, the high humidity made conditions feel significantly warmer. According to the Met Office, the real-feel temperature could climb to 40°C or more, with the maximum temperature expected between 34°C and 36°C during the day.

Meteorologists anticipate a shift in weather patterns by afternoon, as the sea breeze is likely to resume, followed by stronger winds and a chance of light rain or drizzle in some parts of the city by evening.
