LAHORE: Members of the Pakistan national hockey team have voiced their deep disappointment and frustration over a proposed daily allowance of Rs400, calling the amount a profound insult to their dedication.

The players argue that the proposed daily allowance is less than a laborer’s wage and undermines their status as national athletes.

They feel this meager sum devalues their contributions to the sport and the country. Several players expressed concern that the lack of consistent support and low allowances could force them to abandon hockey.

They noted that the proposed amount adds to their existing financial struggles, with many players’ households facing hardship.

In a statement, Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Secretary Rana Mujahid confirmed that the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) had suggested the Rs400 daily allowance.

Mujahid clarified that the PHF typically provides a daily allowance of $100 and questioned how the athletes could be expected to perform under such conditions, especially since they were already not satisfied with the $100 allowance.
