The 12th edition of the World Games officially commenced with a spectacular opening ceremony in Chengdu, China. The games, which will run until August 17, bring together 6,679 athletes and officials from 116 countries and regions to compete for 253 medals across 34 sports and 60 disciplines.

The opening ceremony, held at the International Convention Center, featured dazzling performances by local artists that captivated the audience.

Athletes from all participating nations marched with their national flags, followed by a grand fireworks display that marked the official start of the competition.

The flags of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International World Games Association, host nation China, and the organizing committee were also raised during the event.

In a first for the World Games, a torch relay was also organized to build anticipation for the event. While some competitions had already begun on August 6, the formal opening ceremony on Thursday officially inaugurated the quadrennial multi-sport event.
