Careem announces ends ride-hailing operations in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The ride-hailing company Careem has announced it will cease its operations in Pakistan after nearly a decade of service.

The announcement was made by Careem Chief Executive Officer(CEO) Mudassir Sheikha in a LinkedIn post, stating, “With a heavy heart, I share that Careem will be shutting down its ride-hailing operations in Pakistan as of July 18, 2025.”

He added that the decision was extremely difficult but made inevitable due to Pakistan’s ongoing economic challenges, intensified market competition, and global investment constraints, which have made it unfeasible to continue delivering a safe and reliable service.

Careem first launched its services in Pakistan in 2015 and quickly rose to popularity, becoming a widely used mode of transportation across major cities.
