ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) representative and senior advocate Akhtar Hussain resigned as member of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP).

Senior Advocate Akhtar Hussain wrote in his letter that the Pakistan Bar Council nominated him three times a member of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan under Article 175 (A) (VI) of the Constitution of Pakistan 1973, in his responsibilities. “I continued to perform my responsibilities according to my best abilities”.

He submitted his resignation to the chairman of the JCP, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, wherein he expressed concerns over controversies surrounding judicial appointments.

Akhtar Hussain wrote that “I cannot continue to work further due to the recent judicial appointments, I resign from the membership of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, sending a copy of my resignation to the Pakistan Bar Council so that under the Constitution”. The new nominee can be appointed in his place.

He also expressed gratitude to the commission members and assured them of his continued support for judicial and democratic institutions.
