The well-known Pakistani-Canadian actress Ushna Shah has talked about her struggles with prosopagnosia, also referred to as face blindness, which makes it extremely difficult to recognize faces.

Ushna thought this was a small matter at first, but as time has gone on, it has become irritating. In an Instagram story, she candidly stated, “What was once a joke has evolved into a frustrating experience over the years, and I am sure I am not alone.” This difficulty extends to recognizing people in familiar places, making social interactions complex.

She assured her followers that her illness is the only reason she can not recognize someone, and it has nothing to do with how she feels about them. “A lack of recognition is not personal,” she clarified, urging others to be understanding of her situation.

A neuro-ophthalmic condition called prosopagnosia affects a person’s capacity to identify faces. The term originates from Greek, where “prosop” means “face,” “a” indicates “not,” and “gnosia” means “know.” The majority of individuals with this illness are born with it, and it usually lasts for the rest of their lives, severely impairing their day-to-day activities and interpersonal relationships.
