On Friday, July 1, the Netflix behemoth published Volume 2 of its fourth season. Concluding its most thrilling chapter in dramatic fashion.
Season 4 of “Stranger Things” stars Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, and Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler. Netflix/Tina Rowden
The Duffer brothers issued a letter with fans in February 2022 in which they said that the five-season story arc they had planned for Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and her friends was “too extensive” for just four.
They wrote: “Seven years ago we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things. At the time we predicted the story would last four to five seasons.
“It proved too large to tell in four, but—as you’ll soon see for yourselves—we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season 4 will be the penultimate season, and season 5 will be the last.”
The Duffer brothers said there were “many more interesting stories to tell” in the Stranger Things universe. As they acknowledged the show would end. However, they did not elaborate on whether that meant a spinoff show was in the works.
The COVID-19 epidemic forced the Duffer brothers to alter their original plan to shoot Season 5 immediately. Following Season 4 so that the story would have a continuous narrative.
Speaking about the fifth season and when they intended to film, Matt explained: “I’m not sure we’re ready to say yet a start date for shooting. But a lot of it is pretty well mapped out.”
Given what the co-creator has indicated, it is unclear at this time when Season 5 will begin shooting. Which means a release date for the show’s final episodes has also not been announced.
For the final season of Stranger Things, Netflix will not alter its binge-viewing strategy. As the streaming service understands that doing so “would be frustrating” for viewers.
