The Government of the United States has proposed a $20 billion extension in aid for the thumped airline industry.

According to the details, House chief of staff Mark Meadows has said that the Trump administration proposed the aid in a new stimulus proposal to House Democrats worth over $1.5 trillion.

House Democrats, who had proposed $2.2 trillion in relief funds to combat the effects of the novel coronavirus on the U.S. economy, had been engaged in a head-on dispute over the new measure with the White House, that had proposed legislation worth $1.5 trillion.

Meadows said the White House’s latest offer was generous but 2 trillion was too much.

“If it starts with a 2, it’s going to be a real problem,” he said.

19000 workers to be furloughed

On the other hand, the US national flag carrier the American Airlines has announced to furlough 19,000 workers from Thursday, the company announced.

This move came after US officials failed to reach a deal on fresh aid to the battered air travel sector.

CEO Doug Parker of AA said “Our elected officials have not been able to reach agreement on a Covid-19 relief package… As a result, tomorrow, we will begin the difficult process of furloughing 19,000 of our hardworking and dedicated colleagues.”
