ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has unveiled an easier Virtual Private Network (VPN) registration process aimed at assisting freelancers and organisations.

This updated system allows software houses, call centres, banks, embassies, and freelancers to register their VPNs conveniently through PTA’s official website. Members of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) are also eligible to benefit from this streamlined facility, according to a PTA press release.

Applicants need to complete an online form providing details such as CNIC, company registration, and taxpayer status. Freelancers must also submit evidence of their project or company affiliation, such as an email or a formal letter.

The registration process is designed to be quick, with approvals typically processed within 8 to 10 hours. So far, over 20,000 companies and freelancers have successfully registered their VPNs using this method.

Individuals intending to use VPNs for business purposes are required to provide the necessary documentation and employer verification.

Earlier, on November 14, 2024, PTA launched a new VPN registration portal to support Pakistan’s IT and e-commerce sectors securely. The system categorises registrations into four groups:

For Companies: Businesses can register their VPN connections to ensure secure internet access.

For Freelancers: Freelancers can register using an authentication letter from their employer.

For Call Centres: Call centres have the option to whitelist IP addresses to improve security and functionality.

For Video Conferencing: Companies can whitelist IP addresses to facilitate seamless communication.
