ECP completes preparations for by-elections in 21 constituencies

KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has completed all the preparations for the by-elections in 21 constituencies of national and provincial constituencies.

Sources said that the work of printing the ballot papers has been completed by the Election Commission and ECP printed more than 6.2 million ballot papers.

Sources said that the ballot papers were printed in the printing presses of Islamabad and Karachi. Ballot papers of green color for the National Assembly and white color for the Provincial Assembly have been printed.

Sources said that the ballot papers have been delivered to the Returning Officers (ROs) of the respective constituencies, 2.55 million voters will exercise their right to vote for five constituencies of the National Assembly.

According to the sources, more than 3.6 million voters will exercise their right to vote for the provincial assembly.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to conduct strict scrutiny for the appointment of returning officers (ROs).

According to the details, the preparations for the upcoming general elections are going on. The Election Commission of Pakistan has widened the process of scrutiny of returning officers.

An informal report has been requested from the institutions and the concerned officers. The work on the lists of seats for the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has been completed while the process of scrutiny for the seats of the National Assembly, Sindh, and Balochistan Assembly is going on.

The Election Commission will appoint the Returning Officers after satisfaction. Delays in the appointment of ROs will be attributed to the scrutiny process.

According to the law, ROs have to be appointed two months before the schedule of general elections. Election Commission will soon appoint District Returning Officers(DROs), Returning Officers(ROs) including Assistant Returning Officers(AROs).

Separate ROs will be appointed for the constituencies of the National and Provincial Assemblies for the general elections. The Returning Officers will prepare the polling scheme of the respective constituencies after the appointments. Returning officers will be appointed in 859 constituencies for general elections.

On the other hand, in connection with the preparations for the upcoming general elections in Pakistan, the Election Commission has prepared a polling scheme draft. 100,000 polling stations will be established across the country.
