Hezbollah spokesperson Afif martyred in Israeli attack

LEBANON: The spokesperson of Hezbollah Muhammad Afif was martyred as a result of the Israeli attack in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.

According to foreign media, the Israeli army carried out airstrikes on a residential area of Beirut on Sunday, as a result of which the spokesman of Hezbollah, Muhammad Afif, was martyred.

Hezbollah spokesman Muhammad Afif, who was martyred in the Israeli attack, was also an adviser to former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, while he was serving as Hezbollah’s spokesman since 2014.

According to reports, Muhammad Afif was at the headquarters of the Hezbollah-backed Ba’ath Party at the time of the Israeli attack.

No warning was issued by Israel before the attack.

According to the Ministry of Health of Lebanon, the Israeli Air Force carried out an air strike in the area of Ras al-Banna, in which a total of 4 people were martyred.

The Israeli Air Force says it acted on intelligence reports in the area that resulted in the death of a Hezbollah spokesman.

The Israeli army claimed the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut attack some time ago.

However, now Hezbollah has also confirmed the martyrdom of its leader Hassan Nasrallah. In a statement released by Hezbollah, it has been said that Hassan Nasrullah was martyred. Hezbollah said that the war against Israel will continue.

Israel has also claimed the martyrdom of Zeinab Nasrallah, the daughter of the Hezbollah chief, in the Beirut attack.

Hassan Nasrallah was elected Secretary General of Hezbollah in 1992 at the age of 32, after his predecessor Abbas al-Mousawi was assassinated by an Israeli gunship helicopter.

He studied politics and the Quran for three years in Najaf, Iraq, where he met Sayyid Abbas Mousawi, the leader of the Lebanese Amal militia. In 1978, Hassan Nasrallah was expelled from Iraq.

Hassan Nasrallah joined the Amal movement after Lebanon was engulfed in civil war, he was appointed as the political representative of the Amal militia in the Beqaa Valley.

After the Israeli army invaded Beirut in 1982, Hassan Nasrallah parted way from Amal and joined Hezbollah.

Hezbollah emerged as the main opposition organization to Israel under the leadership of Hassan Nasrallah, who insists that Israel remains a real threat.

Israel’s Prime Minister Yair Lapid accused Hezbollah of undermining Lebanon’s efforts to reach an agreement on their disputed energy-rich maritime border, On the eve of his first cabinet meeting.

Lapid, who is still Israel’s foreign minister, took over as prime minister on Friday from Naftali Bennett, his coalition partner in the now-defunct eight-party coalition.

On Saturday, Israel’s army said it had intercepted three drones launched by Hezbollah that were headed towards an offshore gas field in the Mediterranean, near a disputed area that is the subject of US-mediated maritime talks.

“Hezbollah is continuing on the path of terrorism and is hurting Lebanon’s ability to reach an agreement on a maritime border,” Lapid said.

Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah movement confirmed it had launched drones towards the Mediterranean’s Karish gas field.

Israel said the drones, which were not armed, were downed by a fighter jet and missiles launched from a warship as they headed towards the offshore area.

Israel and previous United Nations maps put Karish within Israel’s maritime borders, and not in the disputed area subject to ongoing negotiations.
