ISLAMABAD:  The tenure of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of Pakistan Sikandar Sultan Raja and two members has ended today.

Sikandar Sultan Raja’s term has come to an end and according to Election Commission rules, it is necessary to elect a new Chief Election Commissioner within 45 days.

Government sources said that Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja will continue to work. The Chief Election Commissioner will be appointed according to the constitution.

Under the 26th Amendment, the Chief Election Commissioner will continue to work till the new deployment. The members of Sindh and Balochistan will continue to work till the appointment of new members.

Sources said regarding the appointment of the new Chief Election Commissioner that the Prime Minister and the opposition leader will send three names to the parliamentary committee if they agree.

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has fixed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) intra-party election case for hearing.

The hearing of the Tehreek-e-Insaf intra-party election case will be held on July 23. A 5-member bench headed by the Chief Election Commissioner will conduct the hearing.

According to sources, the Election Commission has issued notices to the Chief Election Commissioner of Tehreek-e-Insaf and others.

PPP demands restoration of internet, mobile phone services

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party(PPP) has lodged complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner against internet and mobile phone network service across the country on the general elections day.

In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, PPP leader Taj Haider said that the Pakistan People’s Party is concerned about the recent unannounced disruptions in internet and mobile network connectivity across Pakistan, which is adversely affecting the general elections in the country.

The voters are unable to access their polling station information or coordinate logistics to access polling stations due to widespread disruption.

The letter further stated that the shutdown of network services has created problems for voters, candidates and election staff while mobile network disruption will also affect voter turnout.

The mobile network for election day is important and PPP urged the ECP to take immediate action to restore mobile network and internet connectivity to ensure free and fair elections.

ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja is personally overseeing the election proceedings at the Central Election Monitoring Control Center.

According to ECP spokesperson, the Central Election Monitoring Center is fully operational and in constant touch with regional centres nationwide.

Election monitoring is underway from the Central Control Center in Islamabad, with no complaints received yet.

The spokesperson encourages individuals to report any issues by calling 051-111327000.

On the other hand, Caretaker Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi appealed to the masses to cast vote in the elections for a better future of Pakistan.

While talking to special transmission titled “Vote Pakistan”, he said that he was the first voter to cast his vote in the polling station of Constituency NA-46.

He said that over 120 million Pakistanis had the right to vote and they should cast a vote for the candidate or party of their choice as it was a national responsibility.

He said that it was possible to choose a candidate of one’s own choice only by voting.

ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja said that ECP is well aware of all our constitutional and legal obligations and also fully prepared to conduct transparent elections.

Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja said in his message said that the Election Commission of Pakistan is busy preparing for the general elections. The printing and delivery of the final election lists have been completed while District Returning Officers, Returning Officers, and Assistant Officers will be notified very soon.

Sikandar Sultan Raja said that the election schedule will be given in a few days and polling will be held on February 8, 2024. He assured people that ECP would provide complete security during the election.

He said that the people should use their right to vote for the bright future of the country and the nation. He appealed to the people to cooperate with the ECP and ensure the conduct of peaceful elections.

ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner(CEC) Raja Sikandar Sultan said that the assistance of the Pakistan Army and Rangers will be sought for smooth holding of upcoming general elections.

CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja announced while chairing a high-level session to review preparations regarding the upcoming general elections.

The Election Commission said that 26,783,254 registered voters will exercise their right to vote in Sindh. Raja Sikandar Sultan has said that the assistance of the Army and Rangers will also be taken in the elections.

The Election Commission said that the chief secretary of Sindh has assured the implementation of all the orders.

Elections will be held on 61 seats of the National Assembly and 130 seats of the Provincial Assembly in Sindh. More than 19,236 polling stations will be built in Sindh.

The Election Commission said that 4,430 polling stations in Sindh are highly sensitive while 8,080  stations have been declared sensitive.

Chief Secretary Sindh said that the Sindh government will provide full support to the Election Commission for the elections. The ECP is implementing 100% transfer posting under the orders.

Chief Secretary Sindh further said that the availability of all the facilities at the polling stations will be ensured.

IG Sindh said that a security plan has been prepared by the Sindh Police while 110,334 police personnel will perform duties in the general elections.

The sources said that the members presented suggestions related to the general elections in the country and said that the PPP should take a stand to hold the elections in 90 days.

Sources say that Senior PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan also put forward legal arguments regarding holding the elections in 90 days.

Sources Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood suggested a public communication campaign and visits to the flood-affected areas of the Punjab.
