Kangana Ranaut and Javed Akhtar have officially settled their long-running legal battle, opting for an out-of-court resolution after five years. Both have agreed to withdraw their respective cases against each other.

Ranaut, now an elected member of parliament, shared the news on Instagram on Friday. “Today Javed Ji and I have resolved our legal matter (defamation case) through mediation. In the mediation, Javed Ji has been very kind and gracious, he also agreed to write songs for my next directorial,” she wrote alongside a picture of the two.

The dispute began in 2020 when Akhtar filed a defamation case against Ranaut over remarks she made in an interview following Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Recalling a past meeting, she had said, “Once Javed Akhtar called me to his house and told me Rakesh Roshan and his family are very big people. If you don’t apologise to them, you will have nowhere to go… you will commit suicide. These were his words. He shouted and yelled at me. I was shaking in his house.”

Akhtar dismissed her claims in court, stating, “Whatever Kangana said in the interview is a lie and nothing but a lie.” Ranaut had also accused him of extortion and invading her privacy.

Renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar joined millions of Indians in celebrating Team India’s victory over Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to praise Virat Kohli, writing, “Virat Kohli, zindabad!!! We all are so so so proud of you !!!”

However, his post attracted communal remarks. One user commented, “Javed. Babar ka baap Kohli hai (Kohli is Babar’s father). Akhtar fiercely responded, “Maen to sirf yeh kahoonga ke tum eik neech insaan ho aur neech hi marogay. Tum kya jano desh prem kya hota hai (I want to say that you are a petty person and you will die petty too. What do you know about love for the nation).”

Another person taunted him, writing, “Aaj suraj kaha se nikla. Andar se dukh hoga apko to (Where from did the sun rise today? You must be feeling sad).” Akhtar hit back, saying, “Beta jab tumhare baap dada angrez ke jootay chaat rahe thay tab mere aazadi ke liye jail aur kala paani mein thay. Meri ragon mein desh premion ka khoon hai aur tumhari ragon mein angrez ke naukaron ka khoon hai. Iss anter ko bhoolo nahin Son, (when your father and grandfather were licking the boots of the British, at that time mine were in jail and Kaala Paani (a prison in Port Blair). Meanwhile, Anushka Sharma expressed pride in her husband, sharing a picture of Kohli giving a thumbs-up. Kohli’s unbeaten 100 in 111 balls secured India’s six-wicket victory, effectively eliminating Pakistan from the tournament.

After years of eager anticipation and numerous speculations, filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has finally dropped the curtain on “Don 3”. The latest installment of the iconic Don franchise will feature Ranveer Singh stepping into the shoes of the legendary characters portrayed by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan in 1978 and 2006, respectively. The stylish and adrenaline-pumping action thriller was officially announced today through a promotional teaser that introduces Ranveer as the modern-day Don. The highly awaited movie is slated to hit theaters in 2025. While production is still in the future, reports suggest that the hunt for the female lead opposite Ranveer is already underway.

Kiara Advani Approached for Key Role in Don 3

In an exclusive revelation, learned that Kiara Advani is being considered for the leading lady role in “Don 3”. Lyricist Javed Akhtar, accompanied by his actress-wife Shabana Azmi, attended the screening. Javed Akhtar, who also stars in the film, later took to Twitter to share his glowing review of the Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh starrer, calling it a “must-watch.” He praised the film as one of the most entertaining Hindi films he has seen in recent years, blending wit, humor, and strong emotions.

The rally was held at Dadar’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park on Wednesday.

On Gudi Padwa, the chief of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Raj Thackeray, organized a rally in Mumbai called Padwa Melava. He thanked lyricist and author Javed Akhtar for his remarks about the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks while addressing the crowd at a rally in Pakistan on Wednesday. The rally was held at Dadar’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park. Raj Thackeray stated in his speech, “I want people like Javed Akhtar and many more.” I want Muslims from India to speak out against Pakistan and assert our power. That’s what Javed Akhtar does, and I want Muslims to act like him.

Other people, including Kangana Ranaut and Raj Thackeray, have praised Javed Akhtar for speaking his mind. Javed went to a festival in Lahore that honored the writer Faiz Ahmed Faiz. There, he was informed that Indians believe that all Pakistanis are terrorists. He responded sharply, stating that the 26/11 Mumbai terrorists continue to roam Pakistan freely.

“The attackers weren’t from Norway or Egypt,” he stated. If an Indian complains about this, you shouldn’t be offended because they are still present in your country. He also said that Pakistan has never hosted singer Lata Mangeshkar, despite the fact that India has hosted a number of Pakistani artists in the past.

Discussing it later, Javed reflected upon the responses from individuals to his remarks. He stated, “It became too big, it feels embarrassing, feel like I should not go (for such events)” during an ABP event. As if I had won the third world war, I said, “Yaha, to laga pata nahi third World War jeet ke aya hoon.” There are so many responses from the public and the media. I was humiliated, isa keh diya? When inquired as to whether he was terrified to express his genuine thoughts against the country in Lahore, at an occasion being held in a corridor loaded with Pakistani individuals, Javed said, “Is tarah ki baatein, jo dubious hain…jis mulk pe paida tint, jeete hain aur marenge waha karte rehte hain to dusre mulk me truly do commotion jana waha kya dar tha? Jab yaha nahi darte to waha kya darenge (I make such controversial remarks in the nation where I was born and will die; why would I be afraid in a nation I was only visiting for two days?). Javed Akhtar, a lyricist, and other Satish’s Bollywood colleagues visited the late actor-Bombay filmmaker’s home to meet his family. A number of celebrities, including Anupam Kher, Anil Kapoor, and many others, were known to have a strong relationship and connection with the late actor. In an earlier interview, Satish had recounted how he had offered marriage to ‘best friend’ Neena Gupta ‘in her hour of need’.

Neena said in her autobiography published in June 2021 that Satish Kaushik had proposed marriage to her and reassured her that she wouldn’t have to worry if her unborn kid had dark skin: “Just say it’s mine, and we’ll get married. Nobody will have any suspicions. Satish Kaushik claimed to have known Neena since 1975 and to have had a close friendship with her when he spoke to the Bombay Times in 2021. He claimed that his desire to marry her stemmed from his friendship with her.

“I used to respect a girl’s decision to bear an unmarried child at that time. I simply supported her and gave her confidence since I am a good friend. It was all an indication of my love for her as a friend, no matter what you read in the memoir. I was anxious to keep her from feeling isolated. That is ultimately what friends are for, right? I proposed to marry her out of humor, compassion, respect, and support for my closest friend at a difficult moment, as is mentioned in the book,” Satish had said in the interview.
