FATF decided Pakistan’s case on political grounds: Qureshi

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has once again raised fingers on Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) decision against removing Pakistan from the grey list and supposed that if it were a technical decision then the country would have been added to the white list.

“Now FATF members and the world will have to decide if it is a technical or a politically motivated forum,” he said while addressing the media on Sunday.

He said that India tried to politicize the FATF for party-political gains to keep Pakistan in the grey list. Qureshi said some armies want the sword of FATF hanging on Pakistan. He hoped that soon Pakistan would be in the white list as the entire action plan of FATF has been implemented.

Pakistan could remain in the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) because it was unable to meet with six of the 27 points in the strategic plan of the international watchdog, however, the nation has managed to avoid being blacklisted.

Pakistan will thrive in quitting the FATF’s grey category by June 2021, as per diplomatic sources.

From 21 to 23 October, the international monitor to combat terrorism funding and financial crimes will host its digital plenary session. It will assess Pakistan’s advancement in the 27-point activity plan.

They kept up that India attempted to politicize the issue and put forth a few attempts to have Pakistan boycotted, including reach out to the FATF’s member states.
