He studied politics and the Quran for three years in Najaf, Iraq, where he met Sayyid Abbas Mousawi, the leader of the Lebanese Amal militia. In 1978, Hassan Nasrallah was expelled from Iraq.

Hassan Nasrallah joined the Amal movement after Lebanon was engulfed in civil war, he was appointed as the political representative of the Amal militia in the Beqaa Valley.

After the Israeli army invaded Beirut in 1982, Hassan Nasrallah parted way from Amal and joined Hezbollah.

Hezbollah emerged as the main opposition organization to Israel under the leadership of Hassan Nasrallah, who insists that Israel remains a real threat.
