Aamir was previously married to Reena Dutta, with whom he shares two children, Junaid and Ira. He later married filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005, but they separated in 2021. Despite their divorce, the two continue to co-parent their son, Azad.

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan recently opened up about the challenges he faced early in his career after his blockbuster debut in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), eventually making him go home and cry.

Speaking with writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar at the launch of Aamir Khan: Cinema Ka Jadugar, a special film festival by PVR INOX, the actor recalled the missteps he made during that period.

Following the overnight success of his debut film, Aamir was flooded with offers. “I got about 300-400 film offers,” he revealed. Without realizing the weight of his decisions, he signed multiple projects at once. “Back then, actors worked on 30 to 50 films simultaneously. Interestingly, Anil Kapoor did the fewest, with 33 films. Seeing that, I ended up signing 9-10 films at once. However, none of the directors I had dreamed of working with offered me any roles,” he admitted.

As production for these films began, Aamir quickly realized his mistake. “I was working three shifts a day. I was not happy. I would go home and cry,” he shared. Many of these projects, including Love Love Love, Awwal Number, and Tum Mere Ho, flopped. Reflecting on that difficult phase, he added, “The media dubbed me a ‘one-film wonder.’ Rightly so; I blame no one for that label.”

Despite setbacks, Aamir’s fortunes changed with Dil (1990), marking the beginning of his rise to superstardom. The Cinema Ka Jadugar festival celebrates his illustrious career as he turns 60 this week.

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has confirmed that his highly anticipated film, Sitaare Zameen Par, is set for a Christmas release this year. Speaking at an event in Vadodara, Gujarat, on Sunday, the actor revealed his plans to return to the big screen with the much-awaited sequel to Taare Zameen Par.

“My next film as a lead actor is Sitaare Zameen Par. We are trying to release it by the end of this year, on the occasion of Christmas,” Aamir said.

Khan, who last appeared in Laal Singh Chaddha, described the film as an entertaining story that holds a special connection to Vadodara. “It is an entertaining film, I like the story. It is the sequel to Taare Zameen Par and the climax of that movie was shot in Vadodara,” he added.

Initially slated for release in December 2024, the film was postponed due to pending post-production work. Speaking at a film festival last month, Khan explained the delay: “We would be ready to release the film in the middle of next year.”

Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par is said to be inspired by the Spanish film Champions, focusing on the theme of Down Syndrome. The movie stars Aamir Khan alongside Darsheel Safary and Genelia D’Souza.

“Yes, I did. I used to feel that what if people don’t accept me because of my height. This was my fear,” Aamir shared. He explained the film’s concept, emphasizing its exploration of human uniqueness. “Taare Zameen Par was about a child with dyslexia and how we often judge intelligence narrowly. This film takes that theme forward, celebrating our differences and the qualities that make us magical and unique,” he added.

Directed by RS Prasanna and starring Aamir, Darsheel Safary, and Genelia Deshmukh, Sitaare Zameen Par is set to release in mid-2024 after post-production wraps.

Aamir is also promoting Laapataa Ladies, India’s Oscar entry for Best International Feature.
