ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan is ready to cooperate if the Afghan government takes effective action against the proscribed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other terrorist groups.

Addressing the inaugural session of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference, the Prime Minister emphasized that peace and stability are the foundation for sustainable development, noting that progress is only possible in societies where security prevails.

He highlighted Pakistan’s resilience against multiple acts of aggression, praising the armed forces for their professionalism in thwarting hostile designs.

He recalled that in May this year, unprovoked attacks occurred on the eastern border, and last month, Pakistani posts were targeted from Afghan territory — incidents to which Pakistan responded decisively.

Shahbaz Sharif stressed that Afghanistan must understand that supporting the banned TTP will not lead to peace. “If the Afghan government undertakes effective action against TTP and other groups, Pakistan is ready to extend full cooperation,” he said.

The two-day Inter-Parliamentary Conference in Islamabad is attended by delegations from Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kenya, Palestine, Morocco, Rwanda, Liberia, Barbados, and Nepal.

The event aims to strengthen global peace, development, and international parliamentary relations.
