PSL 2021: Babar-Sharjeel Likely to Be the Openers For Karachi Kings

PSL 2021: Karachi's first option opening duo will be Babar and Sharjeel

Despite the presence of New Zealand’s veteran opener Martin Guptill, Karachi Kings’ opener Babar Azam and Sharjeel Khan are likely to open for the franchise as the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 remainders are resuming from today (Wednesday).

During a virtual press conference, Skipper Imad Wasim said that the opening pair will be discussed by team management after a thorough evaluation of the squad’s necessities during PSL 2021 remainders.

Imad stated, “I am the sort of person who doesn’t like to change the openers. We will have a discussion about it. It depends on the position we are in. I have no intentions of making too many changes. So I think you are probably going to see Babar Azam and Sharjeel Khan, to be honest. We will do whatever is necessary for the team. We will sit together and talk to Babar, Sharjeel, and Guptill. But I probably think Babar and Sharjeel will open for us.”

The all-rounder declared that there was no pressure to defend the title and that the players will give their 100% in all situations.

Imad also mentioned that if the team requires him at a higher position, he may consider moving up the batting order.

“If my team needs it, then I can consider batting a little higher in the order. Individual performances however are not the aim. I will do whatever is good for the team. If I feel that other bowlers are bowling better than me, then I will keep using them instead of bowling myself,” he concluded.

PSL 2021: Spinner Rashid Khan’s inclusion into the squad will boost Lahore Qalandars’ performance, Aqib Javed

Lahore Qalandars head coach is worried about the dew factor in PSL

The Lahore Qalandars head coach Aqib Javed said the dew factor will play a role in the upcoming matches of the PSL 2021 ahead of the remainders, resuming today (Wednesday) in Abu Dhabi.

While speaking to media officials, Aqib Javed has termed the late matches of the PSL 2021 as the “biggest challenge” for everyone.

Speaking about the training sessions, Javed said the Qalandars were getting used to the Abu Dhabi conditions. “As far as the heat is concerned, it will not have a big difference on the players. We held a couple of training sessions, they went well,” he added.

He further added, “Afghan spinner Rashid Khan’s inclusion into the squad will boost the Qalandars’ performance.”

“Team had a great combination when the first half of the PSL 2021 was being played,” Javed added.

However, he said due to the league’s postponement, the combination had been affected a bit.

“However, we will try to give our best performance,” he said. “Ferguson, Faulkner and Tim David will hopefully rise to the expectations for the team,” added the Qalandars head coach.

He said the Qalandars had tried to cover each base, adding that bowlers such as Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Rashid Khan, considered among the best in the world when it comes to T20 cricket, were in the squad.

“We also have Mohammad Hafeez and Fakhar Zaman in the batting line-up, Ben Dunk always makes his presence felt in the team.”

What Is Dew Factor?

Excess moisture on the surface turns the ball slippery, posing significant challenges for the bowling side, especially spinners. This is known as the “dew factor” in cricket.
