Burglars targeted the South Africa Rugby Union’s offices in Cape Town, breaking in and accessing the World Cup trophy they secured in France.

Fortunately, the intruders did not steal the prized trophy. The incident occurred on Monday at the Tygerberg Office Park in Plattekloof, with videos shared on X capturing the men entering the room where the replica William Webb Ellis trophy is stored.

South Africa, having won the Rugby World Cup in Paris on October 28, emerged as the first nation to secure the title four times.

The rugby union confirmed that all trophies, including the Webb Ellis Cup, remain secure despite concerns initially.

The burglary, reported to the Western Cape police, resulted in the theft of whisky, signed Springbok jerseys, and eight laptops, while the trophy was left untouched. The police recorded two cases of business burglary linked to the incidents at the office park.
