  • WhatsApp is testing a new feature that lets you search for messages by date on the desktop app.
  • This will make it easier to find old messages, especially voice notes.
  • The feature is being rolled out to beta testers first and will be available to everyone soon.

WhatsApp, the messaging app owned by Meta, is set to roll out a new feature for its desktop version, aiming to simplify the process of searching for messages on the platform, as per WABetaInfo.

The upcoming “search message by date” feature will be introduced to select beta testers, enabling them to swiftly locate messages exchanged on a particular date within their conversations.

“Thanks to this feature, WhatsApp would have offered users a more efficient and convenient way to navigate through their message history when searching for messages,” the WhatsApp news tracker added.

The improved search capability will streamline the task of locating any conversation from a specific date or retrieving crucial information about a past event.

As shown in this screenshot, users can select a date from the date picker panel that appears upon clicking the calendar button—accessible after the update—and search for messages from a specific date.

Initially, the feature will be accessible to a select group of beta testers who have the latest version of WhatsApp Web, with a broader rollout to more users in the coming days.

According to WABetaInfo, the introduction of the date-based search feature finally enables users to swiftly locate messages from a specific date.

“This not only saves time but also reduces the frustration of scrolling through long chat histories.”

To be more precise, this feature will be beneficial in searching for non-text messages, like voice notes, which can be challenging to retrieve due to the lack of text transcriptions for such content. It proves especially useful when users cannot recall the exact wording in a text message.
