South Africa names strong squad for upcoming Pakistan tour
  • South Africa will tour Pakistan in September.
  • Sune Luus will step down as captain.
  • All matches will be played in Karachi.

As South Africa prepares for their white-ball tour of Pakistan, commencing on September 1, interim captain Sune Luus will step down from her leadership role, with a new captain to be appointed soon. The squad, featuring 15 members, has been announced for the tour, which includes three T20Is and three ODIs.

Under Luus’ leadership, South Africa reached the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 Final on home soil, where they were defeated by Australia.

The upcoming Pakistan tour comprises ODIs that are part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 cycle. The squad maintains continuity, as 12 out of the 15 players who were part of the impactful T20 World Cup campaign have been retained.

However, Chloe Tryon will be notably absent due to a requested leave of absence, and Annerie Dercksen is unavailable as she recovers from a finger injury. The squad introduces wicketkeeper Mieke de Ridder, potentially making her international debut, and all-rounder Nondumiso Shangase, who returns to the team after her last appearance in 2021.

All matches of the series will be held in Karachi, with the T20Is scheduled from September 1 to 5, followed by the ODI series from September 8 to 14.

South Africa squad: Anneke Bosch, Tazmin Brits, Nadine de Klerk, Mieke de Ridder, Lara Goodall, Sinalo Jafta, Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka, Masabata Klaas, Suné Luus, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Tumi Sekhukhune, Nondumiso Shangase, Delmi Tucker, Laura Wolvaardt.
