Car Plows into Wimbledon School, Leaving Nine Injured

A Land Rover has collided with The Study Preparatory School in Camp Road, Wimbledon, resulting in injuries to seven children and two adults.

The incident occurred at around 10:00 BST, prompting a response from the Metropolitan Police. Paramedics are currently treating the injured individuals, and an air ambulance has been dispatched to the scene.
The school, which caters to girls aged 4 to 11 and is situated close to Wimbledon Common, has been affected by the incident. The Metropolitan Police is awaiting additional information regarding the conditions of those injured.

“The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene. There have been no arrests.”

From aerial photographs, a Land Rover of gold color can be observed within the premises of the school. The vehicle appears to be stationary and is enclosed by plastic sheets and cordons.

The Metropolitan Police clarified that they do not consider the incident to be related to terrorism.

“An investigation is under way to understand the full circumstances of what has taken place,” it said.

The London Fire Brigade has also arrived at the location of the incident. Stephen Hammond, the Member of Parliament representing Wimbledon, has stated that a significant incident has been officially declared.

“It’s extremely distressing and extremely concerning,” he told BBC Radio London.

“There are a number of casualties.”
According to Stephen Hammond, the MP for Wimbledon, the site of the incident is located in a relatively secluded area. He mentioned that it is approximately one mile away from Wimbledon village and is positioned along the route leading to several neighboring golf clubs.

He added on Twitter: “My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone at The Study.”

The Study Preparatory School, catering to girls aged four to 11, is located on Wimbledon Common, close to the renowned All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, where the prestigious Wimbledon tennis tournament takes place. With a fee of £5,565 per term, the school enjoys its position on the commons.

However, following the incident, the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators issued a recommendation for the public to avoid a specific area of the commons.
