- Kher clears he is not chasing social causes through his movies.
Two projects by Sikandar Kher, who received high accolades for the online series Aarya and his most recent over-the-top movie, Monica O My Darling!, are about to be released. The actor further claims that the fact that both of the projects are based on social themes is “completely coincidental,” as he personally never seeks to address social issues through his work.
Although Chidiya Udd, a web series, is about human trafficking and is set in Kamathipura, Dukaan, in which he plays a Gujarati shopkeeper, focuses on the issue of surrogacy.
“These are two entirely different social causes but are hard-hitting. While we have so many fictional stories which have strong narratives, it’s nice to be a part of stories with social messages. We read about these stories in newspapers, people talk about them and the inspiration behind these stories are those real life people who went through so much,” says Kher.
But, when he looked over the projects, he did not intend to find a societal message.
“It is not important for me to associate with projects which highlight a social cause. I look for entertainment as an actor. It may sound selfish but that is my thought. If the story gives out a social message organically, it is good, if not, then also it is good,” Kher says.
