Priyanka Chopra discussed the “greatest obstacle” she encountered as an Indian actor in Hollywood in a recent interview. If she hosted a TV show in America, she claimed that viewers outside of the South Asian diaspora’may not be interested in her’ because of the notion that she would ‘cater to just a South Asian audience.

Priyanka claimed she has noticed a “huge difference” in the past ten years since she started focused on her Hollywood career. She has appeared in Hollywood movies like Baywatch and The Matrix Resurrections and will soon be featured on Amazon Video’s spy thriller Citadel. The actor claimed that the advent of streaming increased the importance of entertainment globalization.

“I believe streaming is what has actually altered. The necessity for globalization increased in importance with the introduction of streaming. The limited perception of my abilities that I believe I faced as an Indian actor was the largest challenge. In an interview with Bloomberg, Priyanka stated, “It has been a huge shift, and I am very, very proud to have colleagues and peers who have the fortitude and bravery to be able to swim through a thick water that has kept us out for a very long period, and actually demand a place at the table.

Even if there is still “a long way to go,” according to Priyanka in the same interview, she is positive about the future. She stated, “We are constantly going to push the edge when it comes to the arts to ensure more inclusivity happens.

Priyanka co-hosted the second annual South Asian Excellence at the Oscars event on March 9 before the 2023 Oscars, which took place on March 12 (March 13 in India). To honor nominees from films like RRR, All That Breathes, and The Elephant Whisperers, celebrities including Ram Charan, Jr. NTR, Guneet Monga, Mindy Kaling, Nick Jonas, Preity Zinta, Jacqueline Fernandez, Malala Yousafzai, and others gathered at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles.

The RRR song Naatu Naatu and the documentary The Elephant Whisperers both received Oscars at the 95th Academy Awards, making it a historic night for India. The Elephant Whisperers received the Best Documentary Short prize, while Naatu Naatu took home the Best Original Music prize.
