‘Shazam! The Gods’ Fury’s early responses call it “fun,” and “electric”

  • The new DC blockbuster, debuts in theatres at an odd moment.
  • Levy is only one among the impressive cast members of Shazam!
  • With a screenplay by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan, David F. Sandberg once again takes the helm.

The time has arrived to see what Shazam! Fury of the Gods has to offer after numerous (many, many) delays. The 2019 entry’s sequel, the new DC blockbuster, debuts in theatres at an odd moment: when the Zack Snyder-envisioned DCEU gives way to the fresh and intriguing James Gunn-led DCU. Hence, the biggest question on fans’ minds about this film is: How does it fit into the competing DC universes? Here are some early reviews from critics to inform you.

Shazam! Billy Batson (Zachary Levi/Asher Angel) and his friends are brought back in Fury of the Gods as they gather together once more to defend the planet from the daughters of the Greek god Atlas who come to threaten the superhero. It’s “all about family,” as Batson says in the video, and in this installment, the protagonist’s adopted siblings will use all of their abilities, as opposed to just a portion of them in the first film.

Levy is only one among the impressive cast members of Shazam! Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, Djimon Hounsou, Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, Ian Chen, Meagan Good, Jack Dylan Grazer, Ross Butler, and D.J. Cotrona are among the cast members in Fury of the Gods. With a screenplay by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan, David F. Sandberg once again takes the helm.
