Saudi Arabia sets new rules to be followed during Ramadan

Ramadan 2023 is just around the corner, and Muslims all over the world are preparing for this holy month. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Islamic Affairs Ministry imposed new rules on its citizens during the month of Ramadan. On Twitter, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs tweeted new rules, and the public shared mixed views over these new rules.

What is prohibited during the month of Ramadan?

  1.   A ban on donations for mosques
  2.  Prohibition of after-sunset iftar meals in mosques
  3.  Prayers are required to be kept brief
  4.  Children are not allowed to pray in mosques
  5.  Worshippers must bring their identification documents
  6.  Apart from the main mosques in Mecca and Medina, volume levels must be kept low, and prayers cannot be broadcast.
  7.  No prolonging the prayers
  8.  If cameras are used in the mosque, they should not be used to take pictures of the imam or worshippers during prayers.
  9.  No financial donations should be collected for projects to feed people who are fasting.
  10.  If food is provided for people who are fasting, it should be done in designated areas and cleaned up afterwards.
  11.  No temporary rooms or tents should be set up for iftar, as per the new rules.
  12.  No iftar inside mosques
  13.  No itikaf without ID
