Shocking viral: On social media, an old video of a severe sandstorm that swept through northwest China has gained new traction. In the terrifying video, people on a highway stop their cars to film the approaching wall of thick brown dust. Sources claim that the Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai province will experience a sandstorm in July 2022. People scramble to get into their cars as soon as they realise the fast-moving storm is heading their way.

The 12-second video shows a broad view of the dust-covered, empty landscape along the highway. Over three million people have watched the video. Wow Terrifying tweeted it with the single-word caption “Incoming.”

According to reports, the man who took the video drove for 62 miles (nearly 100 kilometres) with the storm following him before it overtook him.

Later, the storm moved into populated areas, engulfing buildings and blocking out the sun. Hundreds of people were trapped in their homes for several hours before the storm passed.

According to the media report, visibility in some towns in Qinghai province dropped to less than 200 metres.

Similar to this, a sandstorm hit Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, in May 2022, turning the sky orange and leaving hundreds of people with breathing problems who had to be taken to hospitals.

As a result of the severe dust storm, flights at Baghdad International Airport were also cancelled.
