Even though it doesn’t always portray their best side, rising tennis stars who appeared in the Netflix tennis docuseries “Break Point” said it has improved their profiles and increased the game’s visibility.

The program, which is once again filming at Indian Wells, centers on a group of up-and-coming tennis players, including Casper Ruud, Felix Auger Aliassime, and Taylor Fritz, as they attempt to survive the high-stress environment of the professional game.

The opening day of the main draw play at Indian Wells was Wednesday. “One lady came up to me at Publix in Florida and said, ‘Me and my husband were watching you last night on the Netflix show’,” Ruud told reporters.

“But it’s not crazy. I haven’t been an overnight worldwide superstar.”

In one episode, which covers Ruud’s journey to the French Open final the previous year, the grounds staff and the Norwegian get into a furious argument when the groundskeepers forbade him from practicing because of the impending rain.

“I was quite angry honestly because the court crew wouldn’t let us warm up before the match,” Ruud said.

“I don’t know if it was good or not but Netflix was there catching it all. It was something I almost forgot had happened,” he said.

“But it was a little bit funny also, looking back on what can happen sometimes for us. It’s not always a smooth ride.”

Auger Aliassime from Canada notices the effects of the program most strongly in the United States, which is Netflix’s biggest market.
