After his family disclosed that he had been given a frontotemporal dementia diagnosis, Bruce Willis, 67, was publicly seen for the first time.
The “Die Hard” actor went out for the day with two companions on Thursday, according to images and video.
The actor wore a black watch, black jeans, a blue sweater, and a grey beanie while out and about.
Two weeks after his family revealed he had the “cruel disease,” which can result in reduced movement, stiffness, balance issues, and changes in behaviour or language, the “Sixth Sense” actor went on a day trip.
While difficult, having a definitive diagnosis is a comfort, his wife Emma Heming, ex-wife Demi Moore, and five daughters wrote on the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration website on February 16.
“FTD is a terrible illness that can affect anyone and that many of us have never heard of. FTD is the most prevalent form of dementia in those under 60, and because it can take years to acquire a diagnosis, FTD is probably much more common than we realize, according to the family.
Despite there being “no cures” for the sickness, Willis’ family believes that “any media exposure” can raise awareness of the condition.
Bruce has always been happy and encourages everyone he knows to feel the same way. To see that sense of concern returned to him and to all of us has meant the world,” the message said.
“The love you have all shown for our loving husband, father, and friend during this trying time has touched us deeply. We’ll be able to assist Bruce in leading the most fulfilling life possible with your continuing compassion, understanding, and respect.
The action star’s family first revealed that he had aphasia, a medical ailment that can impair one’s capacity for speaking, writing, and understanding verbal and written language, in March of last year and that he would be retiring from acting.
Since then, Willis’ family has updated the public on his health. Heming, 44, most recently revealed that she had a meeting with dementia expert Teepa Snow to learn more about how to take care of her spouse.
She posted a picture with Snow with the caption, “I’m thankful I got the opportunity to work with @teepasnows pac who has helped me add to my dementia care toolbox,” on Instagram on February 27.
She is a kind, sympathetic, and expert leader in this field who conducts herself with only empathy. She’s a gift,” the model commented, adding that Snow offers “a treasure of caregiving material” on her website.
