Is there anything Malala Yousafzai cannot accomplish? The Nobel Peace Prize laureate is constantly in the news for her outstanding work and achievements. This time, Malala is attempting to make a film because she believes that activism should extend beyond the scope of an NGO. According to reports, the education activist plans to bring human rights to the big screen with her film “Joyland” which is about transgender people. She believes that the film’s theme will be meaningful to people all over the world.

Joyland: What’s the story about?

The story is set in Lahore, Pakistan, and revolves around Haider, the youngest son of the middle-class Rana family. Haider secretly joins a dance group and falls for a fiercely ambitious trans actress as the film progresses. Their love story sheds light on the Rana family’s secrets.

Malala Yousafzai, the Nobel Peace Prize winner, has joined the film as an executive producer. “Joyland” is a film and television production company run by Yousafzai’s Extracurricular Productions. This Oscar-nominated LGBT love story, directed by Saim Sadiq, is about transgender issues in Pakistan.

Malala expressed gratitude to Saim Sadiq, who ensured that the role of a transgender woman was played by a transgender woman herself. She believes that everyone should be able to participate in the film. Everyone, including transgender people, deserves to be seen and heard because they have the same rights as everyone else. But, unfortunately, these issues are not depicted in films. It’s encouraging to see Joyland defying stereotypes and becoming the first Pakistani film to feature a transgender lead.
