Universal’s action-comedy Cocaine Bear dethrones Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania at box office

  • Cocaine Bear is outperforming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania at the box office.
  • It is expected to conclude the weekend with $21 million.
  • Cocaine Bear has gathered many positive reviews, unlike Quantamania.

After receiving mixed reviews, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is losing ground at the box office. While the week’s big new release, Cocaine Bear, outperforms alongside the faith-based fellow newcomer Jesus Revolution, the movie is on track to see the largest second-weekend slump in the almost 15-year history of the generally durable Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With a top-three finish on Friday, Universal’s action-comedy Cocaine Bear is performing above expectations. With $2 million from Thursday previews, the movie made $8.6 million on its first day of release.

It is anticipated to conclude the weekend with $21 million, more than $5 million over forecasts. For filmmaker Elizabeth Banks, whose most recent project was the disastrous Charlie’s Angels revival, this represents something of a comeback.

Cocaine Bear, which stars Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Alden Ehrenreich, is enjoying a surge of viral attention and mostly positive reviews.

Also, it carries on Universal’s wonderful tradition of supporting original movies like Knock at the Cabin, Violent Night, M3GAN, and Nope. Cocaine Bear scored a so-so B- CinemaScore, which is decent for a genre picture but would be poor for any other movie.
