Ukraine criticizes China for “betting on an aggressor”

Beijing reiterated its desire for a diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine crisis, Mykhailo Podolyak, A Ukrainian lawmaker who advises President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, blasted China for “betting on an aggressor.”

“If you claim to be a global player, you don’t offer an unrealistic plan,” he tweeted.

“You don’t bet on an aggressor who broke international law and will lose the war.”

China published a memorandum detailing its stance on Ukraine on Friday.

In it, China’s Foreign Ministry appeared to criticize measures opposed by the US and the West and urged for the restart of peace negotiations, emphasized its opposition to the use of nuclear weapons, and called for an end to unilateral sanctions.

China has made an effort to portray itself as impartial in the war, but has so far refrained from declaring it an invasion and has continued to back Moscow diplomatically and economically.

According to Zelenskyy, if China respects international law and territorial integrity, Ukraine “will work with China.” The president of Ukraine stated that he would welcome a private meeting with China President Xi Jinping.

Meanwhile on Friday, US Vice President Joseph Biden stated that there has been “so far” no indication that China will support Russia militarily in Ukraine, warning that such a move would have negative economic repercussions for Beijing.
