Guy Ritchie has plans for Aladdin sequel

  • Live-action movie Aladdin gathered $1.05 billion at the global box office.
  • The movie was directed by Guy Ritchie.
  • The movie was based on the 1992 animated version.

Guy Ritchie was in charge of directing and writing the live-action version of Disney’s beloved 1992 animation movie Aladdin.

It makes sense that Ritchie would be interested in making a comeback given the success of Aladdin and his pleasant experience working on the film. The 2019 movie is still the highest-earning Ritchie has ever directed, grossing a total of $1.05 billion worldwide. It nearly doubled the second-place finisher, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows ($543.4 million), from 2011.

Although the first animated movie never received a theatrical sequel, in the 1990s, Aladdin received two sequels. There was the 1992 direct-to-video film Aladdin: The Return of Jafar and the 1996 direct-to-video film Aladdin and the King of Thieves.

A TV show with animation also existed, and it aired for three seasons between 1994 and 1995. This indicates that if a sequel were to be produced, at least a few other sources may be used.

But, this possible sequal might also tell a completely unique story. Ritchie will return to Disney in the interim to helm the forthcoming live-action Hercules film. The Little Mermaid, which was directed by Rob Marshall and stars Halle Bailey, is the following live-action movie from Disney.
