King Charles says “the people of Ukraine have suffered unimaginably” in a message marking the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion.

At 11:00 GMT, a moment of silence was observed in the UK.
At a later G7 meeting, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will also call on allies to “act faster” in arming Ukraine.
The UK-trained Ukrainian soldiers participated in the moment of silence outside No. 10 Downing Street.
With Mr. Sunak were his wife Akshata Murthy and Vadym Prystaiko, the ambassador of Kiev to the United Kingdom.
The Ukrainian national anthem was sung following the moment of remembrance.
King Charles thanked the UK and its friends for their support of Ukraine over the past year in his letter, calling it “heartening” to see they were “doing everything possible to aid at this most difficult time.”
He said: “The world has watched in horror at all the unnecessary suffering inflicted upon Ukrainians, many of whom I have had the great pleasure of meeting here in the UK and, indeed, across the world, from Romania to Canada.”
King Charles, who met Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Buckingham Palace this month, added: “I can only hope the outpouring of solidarity from across the globe may bring not only practical aid, but also strength from the knowledge that, together, we stand united.
“It has now been a year that the people of Ukraine have suffered unimaginably from an unprovoked full-scale attack on their nation.”
At a vigil on Thursday night, a throng saw actress Dame Helen Mirren recite the moving Ukrainian poetry Take Only What Is Most Important while being brought to tears.
Ben Wallace, the secretary of defense, also praised Ukrainian soldiers, calling them “the bravest of the brave.”
According to the American military, each side has lost or been injured at least 100,000 men since the conflict, which started on February 24, 2022, when Russia invaded.
Almost 13 million people have been forced to from their homes or were internally displaced, and thousands of civilians have also died.
Early on in the fighting, Rita and her four children were among those who escaped. Along with Rita’s British partner, Andy, they are now residing in the UK.
