The singer, 64, posted a tweet on Monday that appeared to be directed at those who had made disparaging remarks about her appearance while she was presenting at the 2023 Grammy Awards earlier this month. “Look how cute I am now that the swelling from surgery has gone down,” she captioned a selfie in which she posed for the camera face-on while wearing braided hair, ripped jeans, and a baseball cap.
She ended her statement with a witty “lol.” The tweet comes nearly two weeks after the singer shared an Instagram video of her favourite moments from the event, as well as a response to viewers and fans who criticised her appearance that evening.
“It was an honour to introduce Kim Petras and Sam Smith at the Grammys,” Madonna said in a statement. “I wanted to give the last award, Album of the Year, but I thought it was more important to present the first transgender woman performing at the Grammys — a historic moment.”

“Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech—which was about giving thanks for the fearlessness of artists like Sam and Kim—many people chose to only talk about close-up photos of me taken with a long lens camera by a press photographer who would distort anyone’s face!!” she continued. “Once again, I’m caught in the crossfire of ageism and misogyny,” she observed.
