With the February 17, 2023 release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has begun. The movie had a successful opening weekend in the IMAX theatres, earning an anticipated $24 million through Monday with a current 3-day pull of $22 million on Sunday.

The 31st movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) had the highest opening weekend gross of any IMAX release and outperformed Ant-Man and the Wasp by 28%. The fourth-best IMAX global start for February is the third installment in the series starring Paul Rudd.

In keeping with how previous iterations of this movie fared, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania brought in a hefty $12.2 million domestically in the IMAX Box Office, accounting for an impressive 10% of the overall North American box office.

This doubles the opening weekend gross of the previously mentioned Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was $6 million in IMAX. Behind Black Panther and Deadpool, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s domestic IMAX debut makes movie the third-best Presidents’ Day holiday weekend start of all time. The International IMAX Box Office for the movie’s distribution elsewhere in the world came to $11.8 million. This total revenue includes China, where the Marvel movie made $4 million and IMAX accounted for an astounding 21% of ticket sales.
