Meghan Markle’s estranged half-sister, is suing the Duchess for “defamation and injurious falsehoods” in the aftermath of the Sussexes’ interview with US TV host Oprah Winfrey in 2021.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex discussed their families, royal life, and mental health in the shocking interview. Samantha claimed in a March 2022 filing that Harry’s wife made “demonstrably false and malicious statements” to a global audience.
Samantha accused Meghan of using “the powerful resources of the Royal Family’s public relations operation” to spread “lies worldwide” about Markle’s family, calling it a “premeditated campaign to destroy their reputation and credibility,” according to court documents.
According to the motion, it was done “to preserve and promote the false “rags to royalty” narrative.
Meghan Markle’s motion to halt depositions in the case was denied by Florida judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell on Tuesday. After a “preliminary peek”, the judge says, some of the claims “may be ripe for dismissal”.
