Canadian federal government to provide additional C$46.2 billion in new healthcare funding

  • The federal government will provide C$46.2 billion for the next 10 years.
  • It will be a part of a C$196.1 billion financing boost.
  • Provinces must agree to greater data collection and exchange to be eligible.

As federal ministers meet with their provincial counterparts to work out a compromise on healthcare funding, the Canadian federal government said Tuesday that it will provide an additional C$46.2 billion ($34.4 billion) in new cash for healthcare over 10 years.

According to a statement from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office, the investment would be a part of a C$196.1 billion boost in financing over 10 years.

Some of the additional money promised on Tuesday is unconditional, while others have specific priority locations designated. To be eligible for the enhanced funding, the provinces must agree to greater data collection and exchange, according to the federal government.
